The WordPress 5.0 Release Candidate 1 is out. They just call it the Release Candidate, but there have been other instances where it took multiple release candidates to get everything done for a full release, and I am hoping that will be the same here. Continue reading →

Okay, this is super geeky, but over on Delicious Brains, there is an article that talks about WordPress penetration testing. It gives some quick overviews on the tools available to find exploitable security vulnerabilities and reminds me of just how much information WordPress is willing to share with the world about itself. Jeffrey Zeldman has put out a tweet that talks about a change coming to A List Apart. It looks like it will be moving to WordPress. They have tried many CMS systems, including custom coded ones. Zeldman has stated that after the change, he will have a post about why they did it, but I have a feeling it is primarily because it will allow them to focus on content. I used to read A List Apart all the time to get insights into standards focused on web development, so I’m glad to see them looking at WordPress as their next publishing system of choice. WordPress 5.0 Beta 5 is out. For those of you that still haven’t heard, the full release was moved to November 27th, so we have a bit more time to get ready for the release. Beta 5 includes more fixes as well as integrating the latest version of Gutenberg. It also resolved the last PHP 7.3 compatibility issue, which is great. I still think that I and many others might wait until the 5.0.1 or 5.0.2 release before upgrading. Continue reading →

Have you ever been to a WordCamp before? If not, you really should. They are a great opportunity to learn more about WordPress and get involved with the community. I’ve met many great people at WordCamps and have even been employed partially because of my attendance at one. And WordCamps are super affordable, despite an increase in price happening in 2019. Over on WPTavern, they talk about WordCamps going from $20 per day to $25 per day. Still cheaper than most conferences I attend. Continue reading →

WordPress 5.0 continues to march towards release. Daily updates are being posted on the Make dot WordPress dot org blog with the number of open issues remaining and stuff being pushed to 5.0.1. It looks like we will receive another WordPress 5.0 beta tomorrow and it won’t be long until the final release, though it does look like 5.0.1 will be released about two weeks after WordPress 5.0 and 5.0.2 will be released around two weeks after that. WPTavern has a post that talks about all the recent controversy surrounding WordPress 5.0 and more specifically Gutenberg. It is a fairly long post that is primarily a transcript of some of what Matt Mullenweg said at WordCamp Portland. If you are interested in the Gutendrama, check out the post. Continue reading →

I am still not back to one hundred percent from my cold, but I had to do this momentous episode on camera. I have done an episode every day since episode one and tomorrow will be the first day that I don’t craft an episode for everyone. I’ll be skipping weekends from here on out, but you’ll still get your WordPress news from Monday to Friday. Continue reading →
