While this isn’t really news, I did find a cool History of WordPress over in the resources section of Kinsta’s website. It covers how it all started, some major players throughout its history and more. I’m really impressed with the page they’ve put together, but I think they missed out on mentioning some major players in the early days of WordPress, just like most articles written about WordPress.

Over on WPKube, there is an article that talks about a 502 Bad Gateway Error and how to fix it in WordPress. Typically these errors show up when your web server is too busy to send the web page to your visitor. Sometimes these issues persist and it can be difficult to figure out the source.

Over on WPTavern, Sarah has a post about AMP for WordPress. It looks like the plugin is close to its 1.0 release and I am looking forward to seeing what happens with it. AMP, for those of you that don’t know, is Accelerated Mobile Pages. It has been around for three years and is a pet project of Google’s to try to speed up websites so you don’t have to wait forever for pretty designs to get the content you want.

I have used AMP a few times on projects but haven’t noticed any big SEO benefit or user benefit from doing so.

Over on WPBeginner, they have a great post for true WordPress beginners. If your WordPress site has just been set up and you now want to add plugins, this guide is for you. It walks you through how to select good plugins from the WordPress Plugin Repository. This is the kind of beginner guide that I’d love to see show up on the plugins screen of WordPress before users can add anything to their sites.

For those of you on WordPress.com, if you are willing to upgrade to the business plan, you can get Jetpack search. Newer people to the WordPress ecosystem probably don’t know how bad WordPress’ built-in search is, but I’ve watched it evolve over the last fifteen years and still end up as something companies quickly replace with better solutions.
