This is Malcolm Peralty here from PressTitan and this is The WP Minute, Episode 33.
Over on WPBeginner, they have a great post for true WordPress beginners. If your WordPress site has just been set up and you now want to add plugins, this guide is for you. It walks you through how to select good plugins from the WordPress Plugin Repository. This is the kind of beginner guide that I’d love to see show up on the plugins screen of WordPress before users can add anything to their sites.
For those of you on WordPress.com, if you are willing to upgrade to the business plan, you can get Jetpack search. Newer people to the WordPress ecosystem probably don’t know how bad WordPress’ built-in search is, but I’ve watched it evolve over the last fifteen years and still end up as something companies quickly replace with better solutions.
Over on the WordPress.com blog, they talk about Jetpack search and its ability to be filtered and sorted by users using their sidebar widget. They also mention that previously, enhanced search functionality was a $6,000 per year add-on to their enterprise plan, so being able to add it as part of the business plan cost shows the advancements they’ve made in scaling and lowering the cost of a better, more powerful search solution.
That’s it for today’s WP Minute, thank you all for watching.
