This is Malcolm Peralty here from PressTitan and this is The WP Minute, Episode 120
People are still adjusting to WordPress 5.0, but it has been downloaded over four million times in the last five days. A shoutout to all those that have been posting pictures of the WordPress download numbers including the WordCamp Miami account that snapped the four million.
The State of the Word is now available on the WordPress YouTube channel but if you want a really good written summary, check out the article on WPTavern which goes into the major points that were raised by Matt during the speech as well as some commentary on the questions and answers session at the end. One of the big highlights for me as a business owner is that Mullenweg estimates that the WordPress economy is around ten billion per year.
I don’t like the idea that people that haven’t contributed to core were considered drive-by opinions when it came to setting the WordPress 5.0 release date, but that’s probably because I personally haven’t contributed to core yet.
Over on WPEka, there is a post entitled seven tips I wish I knew when designing WordPress website. It was definitely written by someone where English wasn’t their first language, but there are valuable points in the article. My favourite point is the fourth which states speed optimizing is important. I know I harp on speed optimization all the time, but it really is a strong SEO factor, a great way to make your users happier, and so much more. Just as an aside, I hope that WPEka gets an editor on board for their articles going forward, or they probably won’t be mentioned here again. That wasn’t the smoothest post to read.
That’s it for today’s WP Minute, thank you all for watching.
