This is Malcolm Peralty here from PressTitan and this is The WP Minute, Episode 37

Over on WPTavern, there is an article about a Dark mode coming to the WordPress dashboard. You’ve been able to have the WordPress dashboard be different colour palettes for a while now, and there are plugins that allow you to make a dark mode, but now Daniel James is pushing for it to exist in core.

I don’t get the fascination with dark mode on different things, nor do I want the WordPress admin filled with different colour schemes in core, so I am going to give this a thumbs down and I think it should remain a plugin. Let me know what you think though.

My second story is one I’ve been putting off for a while, but with Doc Pop’s News Drop podcast interviewing the creator of ClassicPress, I figure it is a good time to bring it up. ClassicPress is an upcoming fork of WordPress that started as a statement against Gutenberg being merged into core in WordPress 5.0. Not only will ClassicPress not have Gutenberg in core, they are starting to develop a list of goals and functions that will differentiate them from WordPress. Will the project survive? I have watched a number of splits from WordPress attempt to create something “better” and most have died off.

That’s it for today’s WP Minute, thank you all for watching.
