This is Malcolm Peralty here from PressTitan and this is The WP Minute, Episode 63
Thanks to WPTavern, we have some more WordPress 5.0 news today. It looks like the upcoming major release won’t come out during Christmas after all.
The timeline has WordPress 5.0 coming out on November 19th, and if it doesn’t make that date for any reason, they have a seven day buffer before they move the release to the new year.
There are plenty of additional details in the article, but those dates help me breathe a sigh of relief.
As someone that has done a little of everything in WordPress, the slow transformation from a primarily PHP based application to a JavaScript one always leaves me a bit worried as JavaScript is my kryptonite, and so the article on TorqueMag regarding React was an interesting read.
The author tries to make developers feel more comfortable with the transition and provides an example of how easy it is to make your own Gutenberg blocks, but I didn’t really feel any better after reading it.
Maybe I just need to spend time actually trying to develop my own blocks…
The last thing I want to mention is a great tutorial on WPExplorer which walks through how to use UpdraftPlus, a WordPress backup plugin. If you aren’t taking and maintaining your own backups, then please check out this article.
That’s it for today’s WP Minute, thank you all for watching.
