This is Malcolm Peralty here from PressTitan and this is The WP Minute, Episode 68
Over on WPTavern, there is an article that covers the next phase of Gutenberg. The article talks about the two people that will be taking over leading the next phase.
Both of them are Automattic employees and their focus will be replacing widgets with blocks and menus with a menu block. It looks like Gutenberg will eventually be a full page builder tool and not just for publishing posts and pages.
This makes me wonder what will happen for people that cling to the classic editor? Will there be classic options for widgets and navigation menus as well? Seems like people are just going to have to get on board or move to something else.
Speaking of Gutenberg, Rian Rietveld has put an important post on her own blog that covers why she has resigned from leading the WordPress accessibility team.
Basically, Rian doesn’t feel like they got accessibility right with Gutenberg and have actually taken a step backwards. She is hopeful that Automattic’s full-time developer now focused on accessibility can right things before Gutenberg gets too far.
I really appreciate how introspective the post is and how Rian highlights mistakes she may have made in the process. For me, that speaks volumes about her character.
That’s it for today’s WP Minute, thank you all for watching.
