This is Malcolm Peralty here from PressTitan and this is The WP Minute, Episode 87
The camera should be back up and running tomorrow, so you’ll be able to see me again! But for now… the news!
One of the more interesting things to me is WordPress security, so when I ran across an article on ZDNet about how the WordPress team is working on wiping older versions from existence on the Internet, I had to read it.
The article basically talks about how the worst security concern for WordPress is really older versions, and that there are people running full number releases still on their site. Can you imagine running WordPress version one, two or three on your site still? Well, over 4% of all WordPress sites are running one of those versions.
Techspective has a post on the eight best WordPress security scanners, so even if you are running the latest version, you can make sure everything is locked down and running as expected. You can’t just install WordPress and forget to maintain it. If you want to have zero maintenance, you need to go with a hosted or managed solution like WordPress.com or something like we provide here at PressTitan.
You might be asking yourself, “why do I need any of these?” well, I’ve found old plugins that haven’t been updated that have security issues and have allowed people to upload code to a target site. It takes so long to clean up certain types of hacks, so please be vigilant.
That’s it for today’s WP Minute, thank you all for watching.
