The first thing worth mentioning is that you might want to start testing WordPress 5.0 with WooCommerce if you run a WooCommerce site. It sounds like you won’t be able to use older versions of WooCommerce with the next version of WordPress as they’ve posted in their release notes for version 3.5.1. Continue reading →

I want to start today’s episode by pointing out an article that covers why you shouldn’t install a pirated or nulled WordPress theme. The author found out the hard way how this can create huge headaches by needing a premium theme to test something with, only to find a nulled version that had a pretty annoying security bypassing script. If you’ve ever been tempted to download a premium theme or plugin for free, you might want to read this first. Continue reading →

I’m starting to feel like I’m going to be sick forever…

WordPress 5.0 Beta 3 is out and it integrates some features and bug fixes from the upcoming Gutenberg 4.2 release. It adds support for Custom Fields meta boxes and improves the reliability of REST API requests among other things.

WordPress 5.0 is still slated for release on November 19th, so if you have the ability to help test and identify bugs or submit code fixes, please do.

SEO Themes received kudos today from Brian Gardner for their release of Startup Pro, a Genesis Child Theme that features support for WooCommerce and Gutenberg. While not the cheapest theme, by any stretch, it is interesting to see a premium child theme for a premium theme get so much attention. Good job SEO Themes team.

Lastly, have you checked out your WordPress theme in other browsers? We typically take for granted that the themes we are using are cross-browser compatible, but there might be some differences in the user experience. WPBeginner has a guide that could help you test your theme.

That’s it for today’s WP Minute, thank you all for watching.

WordPress.com is now tracking everything you do. WPTavern has the details on the new activity tracker that was added to WordPress.com and on other WordPress sites through Jetpack. I’ve long since wanted WordPress to include an audit log, and there are many ways to get one, but I don’t think Jetpack is the place for one, but that’s just my opinion. Are you a fan of activity logs in WordPress? Continue reading →
