WP article
Definition
Wikipedia is the encyclopedia that search panels, training crawls, and answer engines still treat as a high-weight source. A biography or company article is earned only in the sense that volunteer editors let it stand. It is not a press release you control.
Conflict-of-interest editing is a fast way to get the article tagged or deleted. Use the talk page, request through COI channels, and supply independent sources.
How it works
Earn the independent sources first (journalism, books, regulator pages). Then, if no article exists, a COI disclosure plus sources is the path — or wait until a volunteer writes it. Keep the article neutral even if it stings.
Worked example
A company with three national features, a court case, and no article is under-described in models. A volunteer writes a sourced stub. Models start clustering around that stub. The comms team’s job was the features, not the wiki prose.
How it differs
Wikidata holds the structured IDs. News coverage is the source Wikipedia wants. Owned about pages are primary and often insufficient alone.
Common errors
Staff ghostwriting. Removing well-sourced criticism. Citing your newsroom as the only source.
